Let's ditch the sneakers - why not try my new obsession!
Ovye shoes - Made in Italy - - comfy shoes for women
I am obsessed with these shoes!
If you, like me, are over 50 and time and bad shoes have taken their toll on your feet, but you don’t want to give up on style and elegance in the shoe department, then these are the shoes for you!
Ovye is an Italian brand that has been owned by the Lucchi family since the beginning of the 20th century. Their website states -
"Over time, the Lucchi family has continued to pour the love, passion and expertise that emerge from every single model into its business. He made the company more and more avant-garde, anticipating trends in Italian instant fashion. More than a hundred years have passed since Giovanni Lucchi made his first pair of shoes in Piumazzo, in the Modena area. The baton will then pass to his son Renzo Lucchi, and subsequently to his niece Cristina and her husband Rino Caruso. Under their guidance, the company strengthened, structured and began to expand. It is in these years, and thanks to their work, that the premises were created for the exceptional growth that the company will experience with the fourth generation: Annalisa and Luca Caruso, with his wife Anna di Somma. Today Ovyé, always led by the Lucchi family, continues to create magical models and collections, to grow, to transform itself in the organization to better respond to the needs of the new times."
I love that these brands stay in the family and stay true to their roots, whilst still managing to keep up with the trends and fast of the 21st century.
These shoes are elegant, quirky, timeless yet modern, different enough to cause comment and stylish. But the main reason I love them so much ?
THEY ARE SOOO COMFORTABLE!!
I have a pair of black court shoes, which I wear around Rome when I am on my personal shopping trips. I start early in the morning and walk for miles and miles and miles - and they are as comfy at the end of the day as they are as I set out!
These are the same for all the pairs I have - from ballet flats and loafers, to sling backs and court shoes.
I don’t know how they do it, but they are like slipping on a pair of comfy slippers, yet with style and attitude!
I really hate the trend for wearing sneakers with everything from sportswear to going out in the evening. Yes, I understand that if you are rushing around, or shopping, or sight seeing, then comfort is necessary and I admit I do have a pair of Geox sneakers that I wear on a daily basis, but there are also an array of shoes out there that offer the same sort of comfort, with so much more style. And if you can’t walk as fast in them, then slow down, take in what’s around you and enjoy the moment!
Those of you who know me, know that shoes are an important part of my life! I start my outfit planning around my shoes each day. I truly believe that shoes can literally elevate the way you feel about yourself.
Time and time again, I have dressed in the outfit I want to wear that day and then popped on my “driving shoes” (I never drive in my good shoes as it ruins them immediately!) and wonder why I feel I don’t feel empowered, put together, ready for the day. I feel frumpy and un-self confidence. Then when I slip on the shoes I meant to wear, suddenly the mood lifts, my shoulders go back and I am back to being “me”.
What shoes you wear can also completely change the vibe of your outfit. Wearing a long, silk, pleated skirt with a pair of Birkenstocks, for instance, will give a Boho feel to the outfit. Yet, wearing the same skirt with a pair of kitten heels, will give an elegant, romantic feel to the look.
A knee length skirt with a pair of round toed, ballet flats could look frumpy if you don’t get the proportions correct and can make your legs look shorter, but by adding a pair of pointed toed flats can elongate the leg and change the look from frumpy to fashionable.
I could go on - and will in another blog! - but I hope you get the picture. Shoes are such an important part of any outfit and, at our age of midline women, it is important to have comfort as well, but don’t just reach for the sneakers, check out the other makes too, like Ovye. Invest more of your money in your shoes, as cheap shoes will NOT be comfortable, unless you are really lucky. Shoe designers like Ovye, put the research into them and pay attention to the balance, cushioning, supportive footbed and arch.
Invest in them, take care of them and - most importantly - wear them! Leaving them in your closet isn’t going to be a good return on investment!
