Yes there is one style that suits most body shapes and will always look up-to-date, elegant, casual and smart and should always have a place in your wardrobe. They can make your legs look longer, your hips narrower, your bottom smaller and accentuate your waist. You can dress them up with a smart shirt or jacket for casual smart, or even the office if the denim is dark, or you can dress them down with an oversized knit and trainers. What is not to like??
You can have them in any colour - although the darker the colour the more slimming they are and the smarter the outfit - but the only rule to follow is make sure they are long enough. If you are going to wear them with heels, they should "break" on the foot. If you are wearing them with trainers they should "break" on the back of the shoe. In my opinion, the most dating and frumpy look is a jean that is worn with a gap between the shoe and the hemline, (see below).
However, don't discount "cut off" jeans, or 3/4 length jeans as these, in a mini flare rather than a bootcut, can be very flattering. Just beware of them stopping mid-calf as that will cut the leg length and also fatten the look of the calf.
Choose a style that is high-mid waisted or high waisted. One that is in either a stiffer denim (with some stretch) or has shape holding qualities. If the denim is too thin or elastic, it will bag around your midriff and won't hold your stomach flat.
Pocket placement and design can give the illusion of a narrower rear for those with wider bottoms. Choose jeans with mid-sized pockets where the pockets are located at the center of your buttocks. Avoid jeans with small pockets as this will make your bottom look bigger in comparison.
